Nazaré

Beach full of tradition, Nazaré belongs to the District of Leiria and has about 15,000 inhabitants. Became known and sought after, as the bathing beach in the mid-nineteenth century. Its natural beauty and typicality has always attracted many visitors.

Fishing, fish processing and sales of them were over almost the entire twentieth century, the main activities of the population but the harshness and danger of sea life have led many fishermen to seek a better life elsewhere.

With the construction of the Fishing Port and Recreation in the early eighties, the lives of fishermen has changed significantly for the better, starting a new phase in the daily life of the village.

Tourism has discovered the charm of this village and Nazaré began to be known and visited annually by thousands of local and foreign tourists, is now a modern village with animation almost throughout the year.
